Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 30, 2025

Meet Default Off is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the extension handles your data and manages your camera and microphone permissions.

Data Collection

Meet Default Off does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information. The extension operates entirely locally on your device and does not communicate with any external servers.

Local Storage

The extension uses Chrome's sync storage API to save your preferences. This data is:

  • Stored locally on your device
  • Synced across your Chrome instances (if Chrome Sync is enabled)
  • Never transmitted to external servers
  • Never shared with third parties
  • Only contains your preference settings (camera/mic defaults and blocking method)

Permissions

Meet Default Off requires the following permissions:

  • contentSettings: To manage camera and microphone permissions for Google Meet specifically
  • storage: To save your preferences using Chrome's sync storage
  • tabs: To communicate with Google Meet tabs to apply keyboard shortcuts

Important: The extension only manages permissions for Google Meet (https://meet.google.com/*). It does not affect camera or microphone permissions for any other websites or applications.

Camera and Microphone Access

The extension itself does not access your camera or microphone. It only manages the browser-level permissions for Google Meet. When you choose to allow camera or microphone access, Google Meet (not the extension) accesses these devices according to your preferences.

Third-Party Services

Meet Default Off does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or data collection services. The extension is completely self-contained and does not communicate with any external servers.

Open Source

Meet Default Off is open source. The complete source code is available on GitHub for review. You can verify that the extension does not collect or transmit any data.

Security

The extension uses minimal permissions and only affects Google Meet permissions. All operations are performed locally on your device. The extension does not have access to your video or audio streams, only the permission settings.
